As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Hydrologist to join our growing team.

Responsibilities

Duties of the Hydrologist selected will include the following:

  • Support daily and seasonal hydrologic forecasting operations.
  • Apply and enhance the HEFS framework for producing, evaluating, and improving probabilistic hydrologic forecasts.
  • Advance FIRO initiatives, including model development, system integration, and testing strategies that inform reservoir operations.
  • Conduct data analysis of hydrologic, meteorological, and climatological datasets, including evaluating uncertainty and forecast skill.
  • Collaborate with NWS forecasters, NOAA researchers, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and regional water managers.
  • Document methodologies and results, producing technical reports, peer-reviewed publications, and stakeholder-ready products.
  • Present findings at professional meetings, technical workshops, and interagency forums.
  • Support the integration of research outcomes into operational workflows, ensuring effective science-to-operations transfer.

Qualifications

The Hydrologist selected should have the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hydrology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, or a related field.

  • 1+ years of experience in hydrologic modeling, water resources forecasting, or related applied research.

  • Knowledge of statistical and ensemble forecasting methods.

  • Proficiency with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB, or similar).

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and engage with diverse stakeholders.

The Ideal Hydrologist selected will have the following:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Hydrology, Water Resources, or related discipline.

  • Experience with NOAA/NWS operational forecasting systems or similar federal water management programs.

  • Familiarity with HEFS, FIRO, or other ensemble prediction frameworks.

  • Experience working with large environmental datasets, geospatial analysis, and database management.

  • Knowledge of reservoir operations, water management policy, or climate impacts on hydrology.
