Overview

Lynker Corporation is a talented Senior Research Scientist for Fish Ecophysiology and Behavior, to support a long term contract with NOAA. The Senior Research Scientist selected will support NOAA’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center (NEFSC) at the Sandy Hook Laboratory in conducting experimental research on the physiological and behavioral impacts of anthropogenic sound on marine fish species. This includes leading multi-year research initiatives, executing complex laboratory experiments, analyzing acoustic and physiological data, and contributing to peer-reviewed publications that inform fisheries management and conservation.  This position is contingent on winning the contract, and will be hired upon contract award.

Responsibilities

Duties of the Senior Research Scientist for Fish Ecophysiology and Behavior will include the following:

Research Leadership:

  • Serve as technical lead for contractor-conducted research projects in fish ecophysiology and behavior.
  • Lead the design and execution of advanced experiments assessing auditory thresholds and behavioral responses in marine fish species.
  • Develop grant proposals and coordinate multi-partner studies.
  • Supervise and mentor junior contractor staff, interns, and volunteers.

Experimental Design & Data Collection:

  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments using tools such as Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) with Tucker-Davis Systems and respirometry equipment from Loligo Systems.
  • Collect and analyze physiological, behavioral, histopathological, and acoustic data from test subjects.
  • Conduct water quality monitoring, animal care, and tank maintenance.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Process acoustic and metabolic data using software like Biosig and Loligo.
  • Calculate metrics including resting/max metabolic rates, ABR thresholds, and sound pressure/particle motion levels.
