Overview

Lynker Corporation, in strategic partnership with Fisheries Immersed Science Hawaii (FISH) as the FLOAT – the "FISH" and "Lynker" Ocean Alliance Team Joint Venture, is seeking motivated Biotechnician to join interdisciplinary field teams on vessel-based research surveys for NOAA’s ProTech Fisheries 2.0 program. Employment in this role is contingent upon FLOAT being awarded the contract by NOAA.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Support scientific teams during ship- and small boat-based surveys by collecting, processing, labeling, and archiving biological and environmental samples (e.g., eDNA, water, tissue, blood, etc.) in accordance with NOAA protocols.
  • Deploy, operate, and assist with maintenance and retrieval of environmental and technical equipment (CTDs, sampling nets, acoustic moorings, fluorometers, laboratory instruments, etc.).
  • Follow established scientific sampling protocols, ensuring full compliance with data collection and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) standards.
  • Participate in daily field crew safety meetings, equipment checks, and sample/data review sessions.
  • Support daily setup and breakdown of field/laboratory equipment, including proper storage and inventory of scientific materials.
  • Prepare, review, and submit field/lab data logs and summary reports as required.
  • Liaise with survey leaders and technical leads to coordinate logistics, resolve field challenges, and ensure timely, accurate project execution.
  • Uphold all health, safety, and ethical standards during extended deployments, including remote and offshore environments.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in biology, marine science, environmental science, or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrated experience providing field or laboratory support in marine or environmental sciences (preferred: at least 1 month cumulative field or equivalent laboratory experience).
  • Willingness and ability to participate in multi-week field deployments in varied and sometimes challenging conditions (at sea, in remote regions, etc.).
  • Competence in sample handling, equipment operation, and basic data entry and QA procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams; strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must meet all NOAA/government medical, security, and safety requirements for field deployments, including background checks and any required emergency/safety training.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with marine mammal/sea turtle protocols, including tissue sampling, eDNA collection, and biological tagging.
  • Experience with marine scientific equipment (acoustic instruments, nets, water quality sondes, etc.).
  • Previous NOAA, federal, or similar marine fieldwork.

Work Environment:

Position requires frequent travel and extended stays at sea or in remote field settings. Irregular work hours, manual labor, and adherence to safety and operational protocols are expected.
