We are seeking a Software Engineer to support development team. This role will focus on enhancing and maintaining the Java-based software, improving system efficiency, and ensuring robust documentation. The ideal candidate will be experienced in working with legacy monolithic systems, have strong Java expertise, and be comfortable working in a complex, unstructured development environment.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance and maintain the Java software, converting scientific programming into well-structured, maintainable, and error-free Java code.

  • Implement new features, including Conditional Bias Penalized Regression (CBPR), freezing level integration, and updates.

  • Improve code structure, inheritance usage, and overall maintainability.

  • Read and understand Python and R code, as scripts involve these languages.

  • Update and maintain user manuals and configuration guides

  • Support IT infrastructure, including Linux-based virtual machines, storage management, and containerized environments.

  • Assist in debugging configurations.

Qualifications

 

  • 4+ years of experience with Java, particularly in legacy systems and monolithic architectures.

  • Strong understanding of inheritance and object-oriented design principles.

  • Experience navigating complex, unstructured codebases.

  • Proficiency with Linux/UNIX environments and command-line tools.

  • Some experience with DevOps, including containerization (Docker, Podman preferred), scripting, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Basic understanding of math/statistics/probability concepts for translating scientific models into code.

  • Familiarity with Python (3+ years); ability to read R code is a plus.

  • Ability to debug large-scale applications and improve code quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience transitioning monolithic applications to microservices.

  • Familiarity with grep, IDEs, and debugging tools for legacy systems.

  • Knowledge of scientific computing and statistical modeling.

  • Experience maintaining technical documentation.
