As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Geospatial Analyst and Remote Sensing Specialist to join our growing team to support NOAA’s Office for Coastal Management (OCM). You will be performing processing, quality assurance, documentation, and management of remote sensing and geospatial data and services.
This is a full-time position with a location preference for Charleston, SC with hybrid flexibility.
Core responsibilities of the Geospatial Analyst and Remote Sensing Specialist include, but are not limited to:
● Quality assurance and processing of multispectral imagery, lidar, and GIS-based ancillary data inputs for land cover production
● Perform land cover production activities (classification, modeling, manual editing) and assist in the development of automated workflows associated with those tasks, in both raster and vector environments
● Review land cover data and associated derived products for quality and accuracy
● Perform accuracy assessment of land cover data
● Assist with publishing and managing map/image services
● Write metadata records
● Assist with the development of derivative information products for use of land cover data (ex. Story Maps, web apps)
The Geospatial Analyst and Remote Sensing Specialist should have the following:
● Master’s degree in geography, remote sensing, GIS, or related field OR a Bachelor's degree with four plus years of related experience
● Working knowledge of elevation data and orthoimagery
● Demonstrated experience with image processing software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine, and/or eCognition
● Working knowledge sufficient to evaluate land cover products
● Demonstrated experience in land cover data development and/or analysis of remotely sensed imagery or other geospatial data
● Experience with Python, or other, scripting language required for automation of processing and data management tasks
● Ability to work in a team environment
● Ability to pass a National Agency Check and fingerprinting background check and maintain it through the duration of employment.
The Ideal Geospatial Analyst and Remote Sensing Specialist will have the following:
● Experience with processing of lidar derivatives
● Practical application of machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science applications for remotely sensed data
● Processing and managing data and map services in the cloud
● Knowledge of coastal management and coastal processes
● Familiarity with wetland identification and/or habitat characterization
