The Lead Scientist selected for NESDIS JEDI should meet the following qualifications:
- Education: Master's Degree or higher in Atmospheric Science, Oceanography, Geophysical Sciences, Engineering, Computer Sciences, or Mathematics and have at least 10 years of experience in related areas, and 3 years’ experience in project management.
- Experience and Skills:
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in project management tools and software. Experience in project management and coordination.
- Expert knowledge of geophysical science.
- Advanced skills and knowledge of modern programming languages and object-oriented languages, such as FORTRAN90 and Python.
- Experience working in a UNIX environment with advanced shell scripting languages and familiar with running complex jobs.
- Experience with High-Performance Computing (HPC) platforms using MPI, OpenMP, Slurm, LSF, etc.
- Familiarity with modern software development practices and version control software, particularly Git/GitHub.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and coordination abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
