As part of our ongoing growth and expansion, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Database Architect and Administrator to join our team, and support a long-term contract with NOAA.

The Database Architect and Administrator will build and maintain the data systems critical to the nation's fisheries, for both conservation and commercial fishing operations, while supporting NOAA's Greater Atlantic Regional Fisheries Office (GARFO).

Responsibilities

Duties of the Database Architect and Administrator will include the following:

  • Deep analysis of existing legacy data structures 
  • Design and Implement logical and physical data models. 
  • Create, communicate and adhere to standard modelling conventions.
  • Follow a scientific approach to efficient SQL Query Tuning
  • Proficient in Oracle PL/SQL application design, review and coding 
  • Identify, investigate and resolve issues related to PL/SQL code.
  • Design and build relational databases for data storage or processing. 
  • Develops strategies for warehouse implementation, data acquisition, and archive recovery. 
  • Cleans and maintains the database by removing and deleting old data. 
  • Evaluate new data sources for adherence to the organization's quality standards and ease of integration. 
  • Provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist. 
  • A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Very likely directs the technical work of others. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department.

Qualifications

The Ideal Database Architect and Administrator will have the following: 

  • Oracle Database design and maintenance experience
  • SQL Query Tuning experience
  • Experience with PL/SQL
  • Data Modelling experience
  • BS/BA degree (or equivalent)
  • 8+ years experience in Database Architecture and Design.
